According to a source, THN has learned that the San Jose Sharks are hiring former Abbotsford Canucks assistant coach Jeff Ulmer. The exact role Ulmer will take on was not made clear.
The Sharks are in the process of hiring the rest of Ryan Warsofsky's staff. Ulmer recently parted ways with the Canucks to "pursue an opportunity in the NHL."
When asked yesterday when the rest of the staff would be finalized, Grier said he expects to complete it by the end of the week.
When asked about the other assistant coaches from last season, Brian Wiseman and Scott Gordon, Mike Grier was non-committal. Warsofsky did say that bringing goalie coach Thomas Speer back was a priority.
"I think Warsofsky is still doing his due diligence, getting through everything, and pushing through everything," Grier said. "By the end of the week, I think we'll have more definitive answers for you guys."
Once again, the role Ulmer is taking on was not made clear to THN, but the San Jose Sharks will hire him.
