Josh Bloom was the hero as the Saginaw Spirit defeated the London Knights 4-3 in the 2024 Memorial Cup Final. Bloom, who also had two primary assists, scored the game-winner with 21 seconds left, sending the hometown crowd into a frenzy. This was the first time Saginaw has won the Memorial while also becoming the first American team to capture the prestigious trophy since the Spokane Chiefs in 2008.

Bloom stepped up when his team needed him the most. As mentioned, he finished the night with three points while also recording four shots on goal. Bloom also played a massive role on the defensive side of the game, helping limit the Knights to 13 shots on goal.

Bloom played 223 regular season OHL games, with all but 49 coming with the Spirit. He started the season with the Abbotsford Canucks, but went back to junior in January. This season, Bloom recorded 40 points in 34 games with Saginaw before finishing the Memorial Cup tournament with two goals and six points in five games.

Now 21, Bloom will be fighting for a spot on the Abbotsford Canucks roster next season. Initially acquired by Vancouver from the Buffalo Sabres in February of 2023, he played 14 games at the AHL and eight games at the ECHL level this past season. With the victory, Bloom joins an exclusive list of players that includes Marc Crawford, Mario Bliznak, Wendell Young and Cole Cassels to capture a Memorial Cup while a member of the Canucks organization.
