Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks 1-0, Game 6 win over the Nashville Predators.

The analytics for this game heavily favoured Nashville, showing just how spectacular Artūrs Šilovs was in Game 6. The Predators held a 23-22 even-strength scoring chances advantage while winning the even-strength high-danger scoring chances battle 15-8. Despite the discrepancy in high-danger chances, Šilovs held down the fort and walked away with his first career NHL shutout.

When looking at the heatmap, it is clear Nashville was pushing all game but could not beat Šilovs. The Canucks goaltender faced 11 high-danger shots and finished the night with an expected goals against of 3.72. Simply put, it was one of the best goaltending performances this year and showed that no stage is too big for Šilovs.

One pairing that controlled play when on the ice was the duo of Filip Hronek and Quinn Hughes. Vancouver's top pair played 17:37 together at even strength and finished the night with an xGF% of 59.57 and an 11-7 scoring chances advantage. Overall, it was another impressive night for Hronek and Hughes as they played pivotal roles in the Canucks win.

Lastly, Pius Suter was fantastic in Game 6. He scored the game-winning goal, was tied for the team lead in shots with five and led the game with four individual high-danger chances created. As for his analytics, he had an xGF% of 71.66, while Vancouver had a 13-6 even-strength scoring chances advantage when he was on the ice. Suter stepped up when his team needed him most and now owns the record of the latest series-winning goal in regulation in franchise history.
