Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy has been suspended for one playoff game for his cross-check against Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
In the video by the NHL's Department of Player Safety, the NHL deemed that his position of the cross-check was too high, resulting in his suspension.
Soucy argued that Nikita Zadorov's cross-check to the back of McDavid changed the position of where his check was intended to hit. The NHL said, "It is not a hockey play," resulting in their decision. The league also said that his actions merit supplemental discipline because the game was over for some time.
Soucy will be out of the Canucks lineup for game four. He is a significant piece of the blue line and has been a key player in shutting down McDavid throughout the series.
