Brendan McMorrow is a prospect to keep an eye on when the Vancouver Canucks select 125th at the 2024 NHL Draft.
With the 2024 NHL Draft approaching, it's time to look at some prospects that may be available to the Vancouver Canucks. While the Canucks do not have a first or second-round pick, this a deep class that will have talented players available throughout. Today's prospect is left winger Brendan McMorrow, who Vancouver could select with the 125th overall pick.
McMorrow is the type of prospect that every team needs in their system. He is constantly getting in on the forecheck and is fast enough to beat defenders to lose pucks. Ultimately, McMorrow is a pain to play against, as defenders need to be looking over their shoulders to ensure he doesn't create a turnover.
In the transition game, McMorrow often elects to pass the puck off to a teammate rather than carry the puck in himself. Once the puck is dumped in, he goes to work on the forecheck and is often able to come up with the puck. As for when his teammate carries the puck rather than dumps it in, McMorrow frequently charges the net looking for rebounds while also causing chaos in the crease.
As for the defensive zone, McMorrow's speed and willingness to hound the opposition make him a great penalty killer. He often forces turnovers and then uses his speed to get past defenders for breakaways. McMorrow also likes to play a physical game and is ready to lay big hits to try and energize his team whenever the moment presents itself.
Next season, McMorrow is set to graduate from the U.S. National Development team and head to the University of Denver. This will be an excellent opportunity for McMorrow's development as the University of Denver has been one of the more successful teams at the NCAA level. Projected to be a bottom-six winger who can play the penalty kill at the NHL level, he would be a great addition to the Canucks prospect pool.
