The 2024 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award has been announced, with Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin finishing in second place. Allvin, who collected six first-place votes and 66 total points, was beaten out by Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill, who collected 17 first-place votes and 118 points. This was the second consecutive year Nill has won the award, which is voted on by NHL general managers, league executives, and media members.
The 2023-24 campaign was a special one for Allvin and his management team. He helped guide the Canucks to a Pacific Division title for the first time in franchise history and their first playoff appearance since 2020. Allvin also made significant moves this year, such as signing Carson Soucy and Teddy Blueger in free agency, trading for Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm while also locking up Elias Pettersson to an eight-year contract worth $92.8 million.
With the offseason just a few weeks away, Allvin is expected to be busy as Vancouver looks to build off their historic season. The Canucks GM will have to make some tough decisions as players like Filip Hronek, Tyler Myers, Zadrov, Lindholm and Dakota Joshua all need new contracts. Fans should expect plenty of movement as Allvin and his team will be looking to help Vancouver qualify for the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2013.
