J.T. Miller continues to climb the Vancouver Canucks all-time points list and should be in the top ten by the end of the 2024-25 season.
Welcome to the Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 Milestones Preview. In this series, we take a look at which players are closing in on milestones ahead of the upcoming season. In this edition, we take a look at J.T. Miller, who should hit quite a few milestones this year.
Miller's milestones need to be separated by career and time with Vancouver. Starting with his career, Miller is one off the 800 mark for his career. When he plays in that one game, he will become the seventh player from the 2011 NHL Draft to hit the milestone. Miller will also become the third player from Ohio to hit the mark, joining Dave Ellett and Bryan Smolinski, who spent one season with the Canucks.
Miller will also have a chance to surpass the 700-point mark for his career later this year. Currently sitting at 639, he needs 61 to hit the milestone. Based on his production from the last three seasons, this looks pretty likely, with Miller potentially hitting the 700-point mark before the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off.
Now, onto the franchise's all-time list, which Miller continues to climb. Currently sitting at 402 points, he should easily find himself in the top ten by the end of the year. The most likely place he finishes is one spot above Pavel Bure, who finished his career in Vancouver with 478 points.
As for assists, Miller has a shot at hitting the 300 mark for his career in Vancouver. He currently has 259 and has recorded 50+ in each of his last three seasons. Assuming Quinn Hughes also gets to 300, Miller would be the ninth player in franchise history to achieve the feat and just the second American behind his current teammate.
Lastly, this season could see Miller become the franchise's all-time leader in hits by a forward. Sitting at 802, he needs 72 to pass Alex Burrows for the all-time lead. He could also become just the third player to surpass the 900 mark, which would put him behind only Kevin Bieksa and Alex Edler.
Miller is an exceptional talent and will be a massive part of the Canucks success next season. He is coming off his first 100-point career season, which also saw him receive Hart and Selke votes. If Miller can continue to produce at an elite level, it will go a long way in ensuring Vancouver captures a division title for the second straight season.
