Öhgren’s 2025–26 Season
One of four pieces that went to the Canucks in the Quinn Hughes trade, Öhgren made an impact in Vancouver’s lineup early on. After going without registering a point in his first 18 games of the year with the Minnesota Wild, the forward scored his first goal in his third game as a member of the Canucks. He followed that up with a two-point effort against the Boston Bruins two games later, also scoring the shootout winner in that effort.
Even with the eight goals and 10 assists through his 51 games with Vancouver, in 2025–26, the most notable thing about Öhgren’s play was his effort and hustle. He plays with a speedy edge that helps in asserting O-zone pressure — part of the reason why he found fair stretches of success on nearly every line he was put on for Vancouver, whether that was with Brock Boeser and Marco Rossi or Conor Garland and Teddy Blueger.
Another element that Öhgren was able to deliver on was his penalty killing. From the start of March until the end of the year, the forward logged the sixth-most PK time with 26:24 minutes played. Boeser and Blueger were the only two forwards to record more than him during this span of time, with Öhgren even registering more minutes than more-experienced forwards Elias Pettersson (13:40) and Drew O’Connor (10:40).
Öhgren’s 2025–26 Letter Grade
The Hockey News - Canucks site gave Öhgren a B for his efforts during the 2025–26 season. For a 22-year-old in his first NHL season with more than 25 games played, the forward performed well on both sides of the puck. His speed and strength on the puck are assets to his game that Vancouver will look to further develop in the coming seasons.
Öhgren’s 2026–27 Predictions
While nothing is guaranteed, Öhgren will likely slot in somewhere in Vancouver’s middle-six to start the 2026–27 season. He ended the 2025–26 season playing predominantly on the Canucks’ second-line, though he did get a couple of games on the first-line at the end of March and start of April.
Vancouver will begin the season with a glut of depth down the wings, with their left side potentially featuring a group made up of O’Connor, Jake DeBrusk, and Paul Cotter (who could also play center) along with Öhgren. Regardless of who takes which spot, Öhgren will likely get a fair share of minutes both on even-strength as well as on the PK, especially given the departure of one of Vancouver’s top PKers in Blueger.
Bold prediction: Öhgren will finish the 2026–27 season with the most PK minutes played by a Canucks forward.
