The Moose Jaw Warriors fell 7-1 to the Saginaw Spirit in their 2024 Memorial Cup semi-final game.
The Moose Jaw Warriors' Memorial Cup journey has officially come to an end. The WHL's representatives at this year's tournament fell 7-1 to the Saginaw Spirit in the semi-final Friday, ending both their season and pursuit of a championship. Jagger Firkus scored the only goal for Moose Jaw, while Jackson Unger made 30 saves in the loss.
The Warriors 2023-24 season was one for the history books. Not only did Moose Jaw win the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in franchise history, but Firkus, Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager all walked away with year-end WHL awards. As for the season, the Warriors recorded their first 90-point season since 2017-18 and picked up their first-ever win at the Memorial Cup. Overall, it is safe to say that this was the best season in franchise history and one that will be talked about in Moose Jaw for years to come.
With the Warriors' season officially over, it also means the end of some player's CHL careers. Atlee Calvert, Martin Rysavy and Lucas Brenton have now all aged out of the WHL, while Firkus, Mateychuk and Matthew Savoie are all expected to be at the AHL or NHL level. Ultimately, this Moose Jaw team is going to look very different next season but should have enough pieces to still be competitive in 2024-25.
