Lindstrom will look to join Jay Bouwmeester as the only players in Medicine Hat Tigers history to win the Top Draft Prospect Award.
The CHL has announced the finalist for this year's Top Draft Prospect Award, with Cayden Lindstrom representing the WHL. The Medicine Hat Tigers forward heads into the 2024 NHL Draft as the third-ranked North American Skater, which is also the highest in the CHL. The two other prospects nominated for the award are Zayne Parekh of the Saginaw Spirit, who is ranked fifth, and Chicoutimi Saguenéens' Maxim Massé, who ranks 30th. The winner will be announced on June 1, 2024, which is a day before the 2024 Memorial Cup Final is scheduled.
Initially drafted in the third round by the Tigers, Lindstrom has developed into one of the best centers in the WHL. He had 46 points in 32 games this season and was part of Canada's Hlinka Gretzky Cup Gold Medal team this year. Listed at 6'4", 215 pounds, Lindstrom has the potential to be a dominant center at the NHL level who can make a difference at both ends of the ice.
If he wins, Lindstrom will become the ninth player to take home the Top Draft Prospect Award. He will join names such as Jay Bouwmeester, Chris Phillips, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Bowen Byram, who all won the award during their draft season. With a win, it would also be the first time the WHL has won the award in back-to-back seasons, as Connor Bedard was the winner in 2023.
