The Calgary Hitmen name Paul McFarland 11th head coach in franchise history.
The Calgary Hitmen have a new bench boss. On Thursday morning, general manager Garry Davidson announced that Paul McFarland had been hired as the 11th head coach in franchise history. McFarland spent last season with the Seattle Kraken as an assistant coach before being let go this offseason.
McFarland comes to Calgary with an impressive resume. He was part of the Kitchener Rangers when they won the 2003 Memorial Cup and has spent the majority of the last six years at the NHL level. In a statement, Davidson wrote, "We’re extremely excited to introduce Paul to the Hitmen and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. Paul brings significant experience and knowledge from his past NHL and major junior positions. He will be a tremendous influence both on and off the ice for our team as we continue to grow and develop with the goal of a WHL and Memorial Cup Championship.”
