The Moose Jaw Warriors need their depth players to step up throughout the 2024 Memorial Cup.
The 2024 Memorial Cup is stacked with some of the best talent from the CHL. While the Moose Jaw Warriors are a deep and talented team, it will not be an easy road as they attempt to capture their first championship in franchise history. If they are going to have success, they will need to get scoring from the entire lineup throughout the tournament.
Moose Jaw's depth players will need to shine if the Warriors have their sights on a Memorial Cup championship. This should not be an issue as depth players stepped up in crucial moments throughout the postseason. This includes Rilen Kovacevic, Lynden Lakovic and Brayden Schuurman, who all stepped up during the 2024 WHL Playoffs.
Starting with Kovacevic, he was a difference-maker throughout the postseason. The former Edmonton Oil Kings and Kelowna Rockets forward had 15 points in 20 games and finished the postseason with a plus/minus of +7. If he can continue to get shots on the net and can average .75 points per game during the Memorial Cup, it will put Moose Jaw in a great spot to make the final.
As for Schuurman, he has been the perfect third-line center for this Warriors team. He scored multiple game-winners in the WHL Final and was 54.1% in the faceoff dot. He has the potential to be this team's unsung hero in the tournament if he can continue to deliver in big moments.
Lastly, Lakovic has become a hero in Moose Jaw thanks to his ability to score big goals. Lakovic finished the playoffs with four game-winning goals, including one in Game 7 against the Saskatoon Blades to send the Warriors to the WHL Final. A rising WHL star, a strong Memorial Cup tournament should help his draft stock heading into the 2024-25 season.
