The power play will need to convert for the Moose Jaw Warriors at the 2024 Memorial Cup.
The 2024 Memorial Cup is stacked with some of the best talent from the CHL. While the Moose Jaw Warriors are a deep and talented team, it will not be an easy road as they attempt to capture their first championship in franchise history. If they are going to have success, they will need their power play to step up in a big way throughout the tournament.
While the Warriors have had success on the power play, they will need to step up their game heading into the Memorial Cup. All three of London and Drummondville finished the postseason above 83% penalty kill rate, while Saginaw was not far behind at 77.5%. If the penalty trends continue into the tournament, there should be plenty of opportunity for Moose Jaw on the power play, as each team has been shorthanded on average over 2.8 times per game.
As for the power play's success, the Warriors will need their stars to step up in a big way. Whether that is Jagger Firkus, Denton Mateychuk, Matthew Savoie or Brayden Yager, the first unit may not leave the ice much or at all whenever given an opportunity. If Moose Jaw can get close to 33% by the end of the tournament and find the net at least once per game, it should be enough to propel them far into the tournament.
