The Moose Jaw Warriors fell 5-4 to the London Knights in their second game of the 2024 Memorial Cup.
For the second straight game, the Moose Jaw Warriors made a late push but fell to an OHL team at the 2024 Memorial Cup. Tonight, the loss came against the London Knights, dropping the Warriors record to 0-2. With the loss, Moose Jaw will now need to beat the Drummondville Voltigeurs tomorrow to keep their season alive.
The Warriors came out strong to start the game as Denton Mateychuk made it 1-0 less than five minutes into the game. London would then strike twice to make it 2-1 before Ethan Semeniuk tied the game at two seven minutes into the second. The Knights would then add three more before Semeniuk scored his second of the night late in the second to make it a 5-3 game. Martin Rysavy would add a fourth for Moose Jaw late in the third, but that was as close as the Warriors would come, falling 5-4 in regulation.
Overall, this was a learning lesson for Moose Jaw. Despite starting the game strong, they struggled in the second, allowing the Knights to take over with three straight goals. The good news, however, is that the Warriors looked dominant in the third, which can hopefully translate into some momentum for tomorrow night.
Moose Jaw's downfall in this game was their power play. The Warriors went 0-4 with the man advantage and gave up a goal two seconds after one of their power plays concluded. Simply put, if Moose Jaw can't make an impact on special teams tomorrow against the Voltigeurs, it could mean the end of their Memorial Cup journey and season.
As mentioned, the Warriors now face Drummondville in a win-or-go-home game. With both teams at 0-2, the winner will head to the semi-final, while the loser's season will come to a close. Puck drop is set for 5:30 PM ST and can be viewed on TSN.
