Following a dominant, near-perfect march through the WHL playoffs, the Everett Silvertips head to Kelowna looking to cap off an unforgettable season by claiming the CHL’s ultimate prize.
The Everett Silvertips have summited the Western Hockey League, but their season is not over yet.
Everett opened their run by swiftly eliminating their US Division rivals, sweeping the Portland Winterhawks in four straight games. They carried that momentum into the second round, proving they could handle the hostile environment of Prospera Place by eliminating the Memorial Cup host Kelowna Rockets, 4-1.
A suffocating sweep of the Penticton Vees secured the Western Conference crown, setting the stage for a physical WHL Championship series where Everett ultimately overpowered the Prince Albert Raiders in five games to hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup.
Driving this incredible run is a roster loaded with high-end talent, starting on the blue line with Landon DuPont. DuPont tallied 23 points in 18 WHL Playoff contests.
Up front, Everett's forward group is anchored by a dynamic Finnish connection that has proved impossible for opposing matchups to handle. Julius Miettinen has been an absolute force all spring, racking up a WHL lead of 27 points in 18 games. Complementing that is forward Matias Vanhanen, who has tallied 24 points in 18 games.
In goal, Anders Miller will get the go. The Anchorage, Alaska native has put together a 16-1-1 record through the playoffs while holding a 0.932 save percentage.
They will face a familiar foe in the Kelowna Rockets, who, despite falling to Everett in the second round, get an automatic bid as the host city and remain a dangerous, highly motivated wild card in front of their home fans. Representing the OHL are the Kitchener Rangers. Finally, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens arrive as the QMJHL champions.
