The Moose Jaw Warriors captain had 17 goals and 58 assists in 52 games this season.

Denton Mateychuk has been named the WHL's Defenceman of the Year for the 2023-24 season. The Moose Jaw Warriors defender and Columbus Blue Jackets prospect is the second Warriors defenceman to win the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy and the first since Kale Clague 2017-18. This season, Mateychuk became Moose Jaw's all-time points lead among defencemen in the regular season, while his 27 points so far this postseason are the most by a Warriors player in a single playoff.

This season, Mateychuk took his game to another level. Moose Jaw's captain put together a 23-game point streak and was part of Team Canada at this year's World Juniors. As for his overall point total, the 75 he recorded was ranked third among defenders, while his 1.44 points per game ranked first among WHL defencemen.

As for Mateychuk's future, he is expected to be in contention for a full-time spot on the Blue Jackets next season. The 2004-born defender is eligible to return to the WHL but will most likely make the jump to pro in 2024-25. Regardless of what happens, he will go down as one of the greatest players in franchise history.
