The Hockey News Big Show - Jeremy Swayman Contract

After a tough several months of negotiations, the Boston Bruins finally signed Jeremy Swayman to a new contract today (Oct. 6). The Anchorage, Alaska native certainly got his raise, too, as he signed an eight-year, $66 million contract ($8.25 million AAV).

Throughout negotiations, the understanding was that the Bruins and Swayman both wanted an eight-year contract. Their difference in asking prices led to Swayman being unsigned so late. However, they, of course, have now found common ground, and it looks like a win for both the team and the player.

While the Bruins will pay Swayman a bit more than the $64 million offer president Cam Neely shared with reporters, it is still a reasonable number at the end of the day. This is especially so when considering that Swayman was reportedly looking for an average salary of over $9 million.

The Bruins have now locked up Swayman for the entirety of his prime, and he will be a significant part of their long-term core because of it. Furthermore, with the salary cap expected to go up, this contract has the potential to age wonderfully. This will be even more the case if Swayman maintains his star level of play.

As for Swayman, he has now secured long-term job security and has gotten a significant raise from his previous $3.475 million cap hit in 2023-24. Now, he must prove to the Bruins that he is worth the contract and thrive as the club's true No. 1 goalie.
