Former Boston Bruins forward Kaspars Daugavins has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
Daugavins' retirement is certainly surprising, as he was having a great season with Michalovce Dukla HC this year, posting six goals and 20 points in 19 games. This was after he had 11 goals and 54 points in 48 games with the Slovak Extraliga club last season. However, even with his strong play, the former Bruin has called it a career.
The Bruins claimed Daugavins off waivers from the Ottawa Senators during the 2012-13 season. In six regular-season games with the Original Six club, he had one assist. He also played in six playoff games for the Bruins, where he had zero points.

Following the 2012-13 season, Daugavins' time with the Bruins and in the NHL ended. The Riga, Latvia native would play the final 12 seasons of his professional hockey career overseas, with stints in the Swiss National League, KHL, DEL, and Slovak Extraliga.
