After helping backstop Carolina to a title, the franchise’s all-time playoff wins leader departs for Alberta. The veteran netminder brings elite postseason pedigree to an ambitious Oilers rotation.

The Carolina Hurricanes will have a new number one netminder next season for the first time in five years.

After 207 games as a Hurricane, Frederik Andersen departed in free agency, signing a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

The 36-year-old veteran netminder finishes his Carolina tenure with the the third most wins in team history and as the franchise's all-time leader in playoff wins (32) as well.

Across five regular seasons in red and black, Andersen had a 98-49-10 record, with a 0.906 save percentage, 2.45 GAA and nine shutouts.

He was also a consistent playoff performer too, with a 32-14 record, 0.909 save percentage, 2.07 GAA and five shutouts.

The Danish netminder was an integral part of the team's Stanley Cup final run this season as well, picking up 13 of the team's wins and posting a 0.910 save percentage, 1.89 GAA and three shutouts before being sidelined due to injury.

The team is certainly going to miss Andersen, who elevated Carolina with his play and was also a very well liked player in the room, but the Hurricanes have internal options in net.

Both Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov have NHL experience under their belt and are under contract for next season as well.

The Canes have also been connected with Connor Hellebuyck in trade rumors so perhaps there's another option out there too.
