A crucial battle unfolds between the pipes. One netminder will stand tall as the other falters in this pivotal Wild vs. Rangers showdown.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild (38-16-12) is back in action tonight against the New York Rangers (27-20-8) for an early night game.

Tonight marks Jared Spurgeon's 1,000th career NHL game. All 1,000 of them have been with the Wild.

But here are tonight's starting goaltenders.

Filip Gustavsson will be back between the pipes tonight, coming off his 25-save shutout against Utah two games ago.

Gustavsson, 27, is 24-10-6 on the year with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 41 games.

He played in the Wild's 3-1 win over the Rangers in October and stopped 23-of-24 in the win. In his career against New York, Gustavsson is 1-1-2 with a 3.39 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage in five games.

Igor Shesterkin will draw in for the Rangers. He is 21-12-6 on the season with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 40 games. He stopped 29-of-31 in the first meeting between these two teams.

In six career starts, Shesterkin is 4-2-0 with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.
