ST. PAUL, Minn. — Before Tuesday's game between the Minnesota Wild (36-16-10) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (38-17-4), Wild General Manager Bill Guerin made a trade.
Minnesota acquired forward Michael McCarron from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2028 second round pick.
Guerin spoke to the media after the trade to answer some questions. On Sunday, Guerin said the focus heading into the trade deadline was to acquire a center.
That center could be in the top-six or the bottom-six.
So, when the Wild made the trade for a bottom-six center, it made sense to think they would be down after it.
That doesn't seem like it's the case.
“Yeah, we’re just looking for. Yeah, we can still add," said Guerin when asked if he is still seeking center help.
Guerin made it clear on two different questions that they are still looking at the market and could make another trade. They do not have a second round pick in 2026, 2027 and now 2028.
"We still plan on being active," Guerin said. "We just might not be putting second-round picks out there."
There are a few big fish out there in trade rumors so you can never count the Wild out of making a big move. As for that big move happening to the Wild?
“Honestly, I always like to be confident," Guerin said. "But you just don’t know. It’s a crazy time. You might think you have something, and you don’t. You might think you’re done and something big comes across your desk, and you can react. But we’re continuing to try to improve the team and help, and we’ll see what level we can do that.”
