After a hard-fought battle in Game 5, the Vancouver Canucks are one win away from punching their ticket to the Western Conference Final. The Canucks have made it to the Western Conference Final on three separate occasions, with all resulting in trips to the Stanley Cup Final. Game 6 will be anything but as easy as Vancouver will try to stave off a desperate Edmonton Oilers team that will be fighting for their lives at Rogers Place.
Arguably, the biggest story to come out of Game 5 was the Canucks going five for five on the penalty kill. While this was an impressive effort, Vancouver can't afford to give the Oilers five power plays in Game 6. If the Canucks can keep their sticks down and maintain possession, they should be able to prevent a parade to the penalty box on Saturday night.
Lastly, Vancouver will need a massive performance from Artūrs Šilovs in Game 6. Edmonton is going the throw everything they can at the Canucks net, meaning it will be a busy night for Šilovs. If he can stay calm, cool and collected like he has all postseason, Vancouver could be on their way to the Western Conference Final.
Players to Watch
Elias Lindholm
Elias Lindholm is going to play a substantial role at both ends of the ice in Game 6. Whether on the power play or penalty kill, a monster game from Lindholm will be needed if the Canucks want to advance. He has been one of Vancouver's best players all postseason and should be motivated to get some revenge on the Oilers after they knocked him out of the playoffs in 2022.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
If Edmonton is going to win Game 6, they need a big game from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. After recording a point through the first four games, Nugent-Hopkins was silent in Game 5, recording zero points and zero shots. If the Canucks can once again keep him off the scoresheet, it could mean lights out for the Oilers.
