NHL free agency opens on July 1 with some intriguing pending UFAs still unsigned.

The 2026 class doesn't include the big names that it could've had, since Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Kyle Connor are among the star talent that signed contract extensions long ago.

That doesn't mean there are no good players, however. There are pending UFAs who could fit in a team's top two forward lines, the middle defense pair or the starting goalie role. There's also suspense as we await Alex Ovechkin's decision on whether he will play another NHL season or not.

Alex Tuch had been the top pending UFA left, but he's been traded to the Washington Capitals and signed an eight-year contract extension worth $10.5 million annually.
