The Boston Bruins played their final pre-season game yesterday (Oct. 5). Overall, it was not the best showing for the Original Six club, as they lost by a 2-0 final score. In addition, they recorded just 17 shots on goal.
However, the Bruins had one prominent bright spot from this matchup — Brandon Bussi's excellent play.
Bussi, 26, put together a strong performance against the Capitals, saving 30 out of 32 shots. In addition, he made some outstanding saves in the process.
This save on Capitals forward Andrew Mangiapane certainly stood out:
Following the game, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery went on to praise Bussi while speaking to reporters:
"I thought Brandon Bussi was the only reason it was a close game. He gave us an opportunity going into the third only down one. He gave us an opportunity all the way up until that second goal went in."
Montgomery then went on to praise Bussi for improving his play as training camp rolled on:
I think he got better and better, and obviously, this was his best game. So, I think every outing, he got better, and same thing in practice."

Bussi needed to put together a strong performance in his final pre-season performance. After the Bruins claimed goaltender Jiri Patera from the Vancouver Canucks, it created a new battle for Boston's backup goaltender spot. Bussi undoubtedly helped improve his case to win it with this strong performance.
