The Boston Bruins have placed five players on waivers.
The Boston Bruins have placed Brandon Bussi, Jiri Patera, Billy Sweezey, Jeffrey Viel, and Patrick Brown on waivers.
Bussi and Patera were fighting for the Bruins' backup goaltender spot. However, now that the Bruins have signed star goalie Jeremy Swayman to his new eight-year, $66 million contract, both Bussi and Patera are hitting the waiver wire.
Bussi, 26, could get some attention on the waiver wire. The Sound Beach, New York native has been excellent with the Providence Bruins in each of the last two seasons. During the 2022-23 season with Providence, he had a 22-5-4 record, a .924 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.40 goals-against average (GAA). He then followed that up with a 23-10-5 record, a .913 SV%, and a 2.67 GAA last season.
The Bruins recently claimed Patera off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks. Because of this, they now have the opportunity to bring him right back to Vancouver. In 25 games last season with the Henderson Silver Knights, he had an 11-10-4 record, a 2.99 GAA, and a .903 SV%.
Sweezey signed a two-year contract with the Bruins this off-season. In 57 games last season with the Cleveland Monsters, he had one goal, four points, and 73 penalty minutes.
Viel, 27, also signed a two-year, two-way deal with Boston this off-season. In 69 games last season for the Manitoba Moose, he had 17 goals, 40 points, and 142 penalty minutes.
Brown, 32, played in 11 games for Boston last season, recording one assist. In 42 games with Providence, he had 11 goals and 32 points.
