Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov's agent Dan Milstein told Rick Dhaliwal that he is being open-minded regarding a contract extension.
Zadorov became a fan favorite for his media quips during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His play on the ice was also strong, but there seems to be a stalemate regarding a possible contract extension.
The Russian just finished a two-year $7,500,000 contract and is due for a raise. Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo just signed a four-year, $19,600,000 contract extension. Zadorov will likely be looking for something around the same AAV of $4.9 million, if not higher.
Reports also suggest that Milstein and the rest of Zadorov's camp have come down from their initial price for a contract.
Zadorov is a solid player, but at nearly $5 million per season, the Canucks must weigh their options on if there is another player on the open market for less money.
Vancouver is highly connected with Jake Guentzel, who could cost upwards of $8-9 million, or even more, meaning they must keep salary cap AAVs down elsewhere.
If Milstein and Zadorov are "open-minded" and want to stay in Vancouver, their asking price must be reasonable and lower than they likely wanted at the start of negotiations.
