With the 2024 NHL Draft approaching, it's time to look at some prospects that may be available to the Vancouver Canucks. While the Canucks do not have a first or second-round pick, this a deep class that will have talented players available throughout. Today's prospect is left-shot defenceman Timur Kol, who Vancouver could select with the 125th overall pick.

Kol is a 6-3, 198-pound defenceman with a lot of potential. He played the majority of the year in the VHL (the second-highest division in Russia) with Omskie Krylia and was given more responsibility as the season progressed. Kol also saw time in the MHL (Russia's men's junior league) with Omskie Yastreby, including eight playoff games where he recorded five points and averaged over 20 minutes a game.

The biggest selling point when it comes to Kol is his mobility. He has no issues getting around the ice and can knock pucks away from the opposition in the transition game. Kol is also quick enough in the defensive zone to get involved in a board battle and then get back into the proper position.

As for his work in the offensive zone, Kol is constantly looking for ways to get the puck on the net. He was able to record at least one shot on net in the majority of his games, including seven of the eight postseason games he played in. A defender who isn't afraid to activate along the wall to try and cut off clearances, he does all the little things needed in order to ensure his team keeps possession.

Kol is one of the youngest players available in the draft and has plenty of time to round out his game. He should see time in both the MHL and VHL next season and, if productive, could get a shot at some KHL games during the 2024-25 campaign. While it may take some time before he makes the move to North America, he is an intriguing prospect who would be a valuable addition to the organization.
