Petr Sikora is a prospect to keep an eye on when the Vancouver Canucks select 162nd at the 2024 NHL Draft.
With the 2024 NHL Draft approaching, it's time to look at some prospects that may be available to the Vancouver Canucks. While the Canucks do not have a first or second-round pick, this a deep class that will have talented players available throughout. Today's prospect is forward Petr Sikora, who Vancouver could select with the 162nd overall pick.
Sikora is an intriguing prospect who had a very successful draft season. He had 40 points in 30 games for HC Oceláři Třinec U20 in the Czechia U20 league and was one of two U18 players to play at least 20 games in Czechia's top pro division. Sikora also represented his country at multiple tournaments, including the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he won a Silver Medal.
Sikora's game is centred around his physicality. Listed at 5'11", 172 pounds, Sikora loves to get in on the forecheck and never misses an opportunity to finish his check. Despite going up against bigger defencemen, Sikora is able to win board battles as he often outworks his opponent for loose pucks.
One of Sikora's best traits is his puckhandling ability. He is very good at shielding the puck away from defenders and can drive the net, creating chances for himself and his teammates. Ultimately, Sikora's success is a product of his high-end compete level and desire to put his body on the line for the betterment of the team.
If Sikora is available, he would be a smart selection for the Canucks. While he still needs to develop his overall game, the tools Sikora has already developed show he has the potential to be successful at the pro level. A player who plays a Rick Tocchet style of game, he would be a great addition to Vancouver's prospect pool.
