The Vancouver Canucks ranked fourth in the NHL when it came to suspension and fines during the 2023-24 season.

Discipline is a key part of any team's success. Not only do players need to be disciplined during the game, but they also need to ensure they don't commit any infractions that could lead to either suspensions or fines. While on paper, it didn't seem like the Vancouver Canucks faced the wrath of the Department of Player Safety often, a new report shows they ranked fourth in the league when it came to suspensions and fines during the 2023-24 campaign.

In a recent report done by Gambling Zone, the Canucks received a "Red Card Score" of 7.03 for the 2023-24 season. To calculate the "Red Card Score," the number of fines, total fine amount, number of suspensions, number of games missed due to suspensions, and total amount lost due to suspensions are gathered, given a normalized score out of ten and then averaged across all factors. Vancouver was one of four teams to receive a score higher than seven, with the other three being the Toronto Maple Leafs (7.68), the Minnesota Wild (7.93) and the Boston Bruins (8.32).

According to the data, here is a look at the top ten teams from the past season:

This past year, the Canucks received supplemental discipline on four occasions. Nikita Zadorov received the only suspension, receiving two games in February for an illegal check to the head. As for the fines, Nils Höglander received two during the season, which was tied for the league lead with Ross Colton, while Tyler Myers received the other fine.
