The Boston Bruins still have more work to do.

Tyler Johnson has stuck around with the Boston Bruins after receiving a professional tryout (PTO) from them during training camp. However, while the veteran forward has been practicing with the team, he is still looking for a contract for the season.
After placing Riley Tufte on waivers and sending him down to the American Hockey League (AHL), the Bruins now have a projected $1.1 million of cap space. This now gives them more room to sign Johnson to a deal if they wish to.
When looking at the Bruins' start to the season, it is fair to say that they could use a forward like Johnson. Several of their middle-six forwards have struggled to produce offensively, and they haven't found a permanent solution for the second-line right wing spot. Thus, signing Johnson would provide them with another solid option.

Johnson showed last season with the Chicago Blackhawks that can still provide decent secondary scoring. In 67 games with Chicago, the 5-foot-8 forward scored 17 goals and had 31 points. This was after he had 12 goals and 32 points in 56 games with Chicago during the previous season.
Ultimately, with the Bruins needing more skill and forward depth, signing Johnson could give the club a nice boost. This is especially so when noting that he can play all three forward positions and has two Stanley Cup championships on his resume.
