Teddy Blueger had 28 points during his first season with the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver Canucks Sign Teddy Blueger To A Two-Year Extension

The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed Teddy Blueger to a two-year extension worth $3.6 million. The contract will carry an AAV of $1.8 million and keep the 29-year-old in Vancouver until the end of the 2025-26 season. Blueger is coming off one of his best seasons in the NHL, setting a new career high in assists with 22 while tying his career high in points at 28.

Blueger was a crucial part of the penalty kill during his first season with the Canucks. He led all forwards in minutes during the regular season and postseason and was often the first forward over the board on the penalty kill. Blueger was also able to contribute offensively while shorthanded, recording two goals and four points during the regular season.

In a statement, GM Patirk Allvin wrote, "Teddy was a key addition to our team last year and we are really excited to have him back for a couple more seasons. His versatility and experience really helped our group in both the regular season and playoffs. He is a strong leader and someone we will count on a lot more moving forward."

While Blueger may not put up a ton of points, he plays a valuable role for Vancouver. He won 53.1% of his faceoffs, finished the season with a five-on-five CF% of 52.40 and limited the opposition to three goals in just over 32 minutes of shorthanded time in the postseason. Ultimately, this is a big win for the Canucks as head coach Rick Tocchet gets a player he trusts in his lineup for the next two seasons.
