Grading Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk 2025-26 season.
Welcome to the 2025–26 installment of The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks’ Player Report Card Series. Throughout the off-season, THN will conduct a deep dive into how each member of the Canucks performed throughout the 2025–26 season. Today’s article will focus on forward Jake DeBrusk.
DeBrusk's 2025–26 Season Review
The best way to describe DeBrusk's 2025-26 season is bizarre. While he did score 23 goals, 19 of them were on the power play. The majority of DeBrusk's goals also came at the end of the campaign, with 10 of them in the final 23 games of the season.
As for the most surprising moment of the year, that came in late December when DeBrusk was a healthy scratch. The decision by Adam Foote and his staff was perplexing at the time, as he was the only experienced player who was officially a healthy scratch. DeBrusk would respond almost immediately, recording a three-point night in his second game back in the lineup.
One of the biggest issues for DeBrusk this year was his finishing. Despite recording a career-high 219 shots, he recorded his third-worst shooting percentage at 10.5%. Wrist shots appeared to be DeBrusk's Achilles' Heel this year, as he recorded a team-high 113 shots, but only scored eight goals.
Where DeBrusk thrived this year was in tip-in goals. He finished with eight, which ranked second in the NHL. DeBrusk's ability to tip pucks is a useful skill and shows that he was constantly around the net looking for scoring opportunities.
Ultimately, there is a good chance that DeBrusk starts the 2026-27 season with another team. Trade rumours have already started to swirl, with the 29-year-old as the focus, as he does not fit the rebuild timeline. If this is the end for DeBrusk in Vancouver, he will finish his Canucks career with 51 goals and 90 points in 163 games.
DeBrusk's 2025–26 Letter Grade
Giving DeBrusk a grade for the 2025-26 season is challenging. He struggled for the majority of the campaign, but bounced back at the end and still found a way to surpass the 20-goal mark. While the production, from a raw-numbers perspective, was there, his overall season could have been better.
Ultimately, DeBrusk receives an C+ grade for the 2025-26 season.
